When is the cheapest time to relocate

Pre-Move Activities - June 3, 2019

The popular belief that there are not as many life events that are as stressful as moving is, unfortunately, completely justified. This will inevitably be a period of elevated stress, a bunch of worries, and quite a few financial woes. Moving is expensive, and that’s something that you can’t change. What you can do, however, is choose the cheapest time to relocate. Cheap doesn’t equal cost-free, but it does equal more reasonable prices. Getting the best Worcester movers and not paying a high price for it may seem like mission impossible. But little did you know that it’s all about the timing. And some knowledge, but we’re here to help with that.

The cheapest time to relocate is definitely during the winter months…

Winter is a beautiful season that comes with its own magic. The Christmas season, New Year’s Eve and the fairytale scenery are a reason we all love winter – well, most of us at least. But those things that are so pleasing to the eyes are the main reason why people decide to move any other time other than winter. Summer is by far the season when local movers Massachusetts are swamped with work. We all know that services that are in high demand usually come attached to a hefty price tag. And that sum might be something you can’t pay.

Winter is the time when you want to spend some quality time with your family.

On the other hand, a moving company’s schedule will be full of openings during the winter months. Since moving services Massachusetts are in low demand, the companies usually lower their price to lure people in. Not only will you have the benefit of low prices, but you will also have the option of choosing your own moving date and fitting it into your moving timeline. However, life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. There are a few downsides of moving during the winter which might make you rethink the whole thing.

…but there’s more to a winter relocation than a low price tag

Think of it like this – while all the other families are celebrating near a fireplace and hanging Christmas lights, you will be packing up your items into boxes. It really isn’t the picture-perfect Christmas everyone wishes to have. Besides, the winter weather will make it hard for you to relocate. Snow and sleet are not exactly the perfect conditions for moving, and there will come a time when you might even have to cancel your move due to poor weather. But, if the most affordable time to relocate is what you are looking for, this is definitely it.

Spring might be more to your taste

While spring is not THE cheapest time to relocate, it’s still much more affordable than summertime. And when it comes to the weather, it really doesn’t get any better than this. Depending on the state you are located, the temperatures may vary. But one thing is for sure – you will be able to avoid the scorching hot temperatures of the summer months, as well as the blistering cold of the winter months. We find that to be a win-win situation.

Whether you are looking for commercial or residential moving services, if you are thinking about a spring relocation, it’s best to choose March and April. The end of May is already the start of the peak season for moving, and you won’t be able to relocate on a budget. Nor will you be able to easily book a move. The only downside of a spring relocation will be experienced by those with school-age children. With the end of the year recitals and exams in sight, spring is not an ideal time to move with children.

The cheapest time to move depends on more than just the season

It also depends on which time of the month, week, and even day you choose. Yes, you heard that correctly – even day. If you want to move on a budget, all you have to do is pay a bit of attention. And make a few adjustments, of course.

The right timing can be of crucial importance.
  • If you want to choose the cheapest time to relocate, aim for mid-month. Many leases begin at the beginning or end of the month, which is why more people move during this period of time. What we’ve learned by now is that high demand equals high prices. So, choose mid-month and you can’t make a mistake.
  • Try to move from Monday to Thursday. Due to their working schedules, people usually move on weekdays. Yes, we know that getting a few days off from work might be difficult, but try to do it for the sake of your budget.
  • When moving, aim for early morning hours. It doesn’t matter which season you are moving in – early morning hours will provide you will more daylight to finish everything and will help you avoid summer’s temperatures.

Think carefully and make a well-informed decision

At the end of the day, choosing the cheapest time to relocate won’t do you much good if you have to compromise on many other things. And those things include your safety as well as your family’s wellbeing. When faced with a decision this big, it’s always advisable to request a moving quote from a couple of different companies. You’ll see that different movers will have different prices. Word to the wise: don’t opt for the lowest moving estimates. Those almost never lead to anything good and, more often than not, turn out to be a sign of fraudulent movers. Good luck and may your bank account not end up in the red.
