First Things First – Declutter!

Decluttering is the absolute most important part of organizing your home. Most of us simply have too much stuff in our homes and that’s a clear sign that we need decluttering. With so much stuff, the organization becomes a much more difficult prospect. There are numerous ways you can go about decluttering but we would like to suggest the “pile” method. Basically, you will separate your items into three piles. You can call the piles however you want but for the sake of this article we will call them “Keep”, “Maybe”, and “Throw away”.

Declutter Process

The first part is getting all of your non-essential items out of their hiding places. This will be a long and arduous task so make sure you have plenty of time and energy. After you get them all out, you will start to divide them into piles. Every item needs to go on one pile. After you have finished with this process you will have a lot of items on the “Maybe” pile. Now is the time to repeat that process as many times as it is necessary until there is no “Maybe” pile left.

Do not waste a lot of time thinking about every item until you remove it from the pile. Think for a maximum of five minutes and then move to the next item. If you simply can’t decide on the item, it is always better to keep it instead of throwing it away. This is a clear sign that you need a storage unit! Because if you are thinking so much, the thing is most likely worth keeping.

Mail And Miscellaneous Papers

Organizing your mail and all those random papers is quite easy. Simply dedicate one box for everything that is an envelope or a paper that needs to be read at some point. Throw everything in the box and set aside one day for sifting through it all, say Sunday morning. This way your papers will be all in one place and you will have a simple schedule that will allow you to read them all. Of course, if anything is urgent, don’t wait for that specific day, deal with it straight away!

Pantry

The best way to organize the pantry is reminiscent of grocery stores. That’s right, a lot of shelves! You will place the items that have the longest expiry date in the back and the ones that need to be consumed first in the front. Simple and effective. Also, make sure to label every container that contains dry foods (such as cereal, nuts, etc.) so you never wonder where you put anything.

Household Organizational Methods – Kitchen Counters

Another place where shelves come in real handy. Most of the time the wall space in the kitchen is under-utilized. Place some shelves there and take some of the load off those counters! One of the best ways to organize everything is simply by color. Another simple yet extremely effective organizational rule!

Bathroom Sink

Speaking of colors, they come unbelievably handy in bathroom organization. Usually, the bathroom sink will hold the items from the entire household. In order to bring some, well, order into the bathroom sink, consider separating spaces by color. This will make it really simple for everyone to find their own stuff. More importantly, it will make it really easy for everyone to return the items to their own places.

Household Organizational Methods – Dresser Drawers

The best thing you can purchase that will aid your home organization are the dresser drawers. They come with so many dividers that you can tell at a glance where is everything. A pure marvel of organization! We have only good things to say about these amazing organizer drawers. Try them out, you will be pleasantly surprised! They are quite cheap, too.

Bookcase

When it comes to organizing your bookcase, the main goal is to make it aesthetically pleasing. Unless your bookcase is somewhere where no one will lay eyes upon it, you wish for it to be pleasing to look at. You can accomplish this by sorting all the books by color and height. This will make your bookcase look much better, with little effort on your part.

Clothes

When it comes to organizing clothes, the best recommendation that we can give is: Place the matched sets together. By matched sets, we mean items that you usually wear together and that you feel comfortable wearing. Because, most of the time, you will be looking just for those items together. On the off-times that you don’t, well, business as usual. This little organization trick will shave off quite a bit of time off selecting clothes. Imagine if you “save” 20 seconds every day. In three days, you get a minute and you get 10 minutes per month. This is the time that you can use for anything you’d like and you know what everyone says “time is money”.
