Best time to declutter your garage

Decluttering Tips - July 12, 2019

The garage is that part of the house we think of as our go-to place for getting rid of different items. Need a place to store your winter gear? Throw it in the garage. Need to get your Christmas ornaments out of the way? Box it, seal it, and send it flying to the garage. That’s the reason why we can barely see the floor of this area of the house. Even though right now it seems to you that to declutter your garage will be nothing short of a nightmare, there is no reason for it to be like that. Trust us – soon enough, you’ll be able to separate the good from the bad and pay for professional junk removal service to take the items you decide on throwing away. Or you can do it yourself – it’s a good thing you have a few options!

The best time to declutter your garage is coming right up

It sure is called spring cleaning, but the best time to declutter your garage is during fall and winter. Why? Well, it’s very simple. Spring and summer are two seasons you really want to enjoy. You wake up every other day with a new activity on your mind, as the sunshine really urges us to get out and enjoy life. On the other hand, the colder days have you wanting to stay inside curled up in your blanket, watching Netflix for the fifth hour in a row. We can all agree those hours could be put to much better use, right?

Cozying up will be that much sweeter once you are done decluttering the garage.

Besides, during the fall and winter season, the cost of junk removal service and moving services is usually much much cheaper than in summer and spring. So, if you need to relocate and/or hire professionals to rid you of your junk, and you are on a limited budget at the same time, this is the season for you!

Reasons why decluttering your garage during fall-winter will be good for you

Besides doing something useful with your time, there are a couple of reasons why it will be really good for you to clean your garage. The first one is obviously a reduced risk of injuries. If your garage is cluttered with all sorts of different objects (from your power tools to holiday decorations), tripping over something and falling is a real possibility. Even if you think you are completely safe since you know exactly where everything is, can you really say the same for your family members? If you would feel scared letting your kid into your garage, it’s high time you decluttered it! That’s a tell-tale sign that you need decluttering and you shouldn’t ignore it!

Secondly, during the fall and winter season, people are more prone to depression. It’s a known fact that the sunrays produce all those hormones we need for staying in a good state of mind and once they are gone during the cold days, people’s moods start going down. And the worst thing you can do at that moment is to be inactive. Decluttering your garage will give you something to do and will help you fight off bad thoughts and feelings. Not to mention that it will lead to a clean garage, which is something you haven’t seen in a while.

Finally, once the snow finally shows its face, you’ll have to say goodbye to parking on the street. The only place for you to park your car will be your garage. After all, that is the whole purpose of this area of the house. But since it’s out of sight most of the time, people let it get all messy and cluttered. There won’t be any place left for your car among all that mess, don’t you think? So get to work and declutter your garage so that you can park in it!

Be ready and prepared

We had to mention this separately so as to give it the importance it deserves but, if you have any metal junk or broken glass, the only way to approach it is with a lot of protective gear. You really want to protect yourself when handling junk otherwise you won’t be doing anyone a favor!

Don’t be sentimental when cleaning the garage – be rational

This is something we here at Grunts Move Junk and Moving Massachusetts constantly tell our customers. When moving and decluttering, there is no room for sentimentality. It goes without saying that you should hold on to those things that are really dear to your heart – like your childhood trophies. Some things can never be replaced sentimentally. Others, on the other hand, are just making a mess of things.

Once you decide which things are leaving the premises, you have two options – to donate or rent a dumpster and throw everything away. Our suggestion? If an item is in working condition, the donation is always the better option. Why not help someone if you have the chance? On the other hand, if you are aware that the item in question is completely useless, as much as you want to be charitable it’s best for you to throw it away.

Congratulations! You’ve managed to declutter your garage and can now enjoy your days in a clean space. Your garage isn’t a hazard for anyone anymore – it’s a clean and clutter-free space. All due to your hard work and dedication which, as it turns out, always pays off. And we are glad if we were able to help with any aspect of it! Our team is always at your disposal!
